September 12, 1938: CBS began broadcasting events of a crisis in Czechoslovakia reported by H.V. Kaltenborn . H.V. Kaltenborn , or Hans von Kaltenborn, was an American commentator who broadcast on the radio for over 30 years. He was famous for his insightful comments and knowledge of foreign affairs. Kaltenborn's reporting of the Czech Crisis in 1938 made radio news as it occurred at the time when Nazi Germany was planning to seize the land of Sudentenland located on Czechoslovakia's borders. He slept at the studio for 18 days to report updates of these events to listeners.
