August 16, 1939 : 'Lights Out' aired in NBC for the Last Time

August 16, 1939: Having being heard for the last time on NBC, Arch Oboler brought back to life Lights Out- radio's "ultimate horror show". The show's most familiar trademark, "Lights out, everybody!", guaranteed to put one under the covers on a dark night was, followed by 12 chimes of a clock.

When the show was revived on 1942, it was aired during prime time, instead of its usual late night schedule. It was heard on CBS and lasted for a year.

  1. In the early 1970's a local radio station began to replay Lights Out on Saturday nights. It was my introduction to OTR and I never missed an episode.
