Gargan was a well-known movie star, but was best known as the radio personality, Detective Martin Kane, on the series, 'Private Eye'. Gargan had an expansive career, but it abruptly ended in 1958, when doctors had to remove his larynx due to throat cancer. He later became a spokesperson for cancer, speaking through an artificial voice box.
